Top 10 Underrated Music Blogs Online

You won’t find them on HypeM and your friends probably haven’t heard of them yet, but these blogs are diamonds in the rough–the rough is the internet, in case you didn’t catch on. Make sure you add the following blogs to your daily checklist and keep your ears fresh! Below are our Top 10 Underrated Music Blogs of 2011, in no particular order:

1. SWAAGER With a wide selection of interviews and monthly mixes, SWAAGER is legit. What make this blog even more enticing? Their first-hand look at concerts titled, Show Diary.

2. The World’s Best Ever: Sound Advice While The World’s Best Ever is known for being a powerblog, racking in hundreds of thousands of views monthly, our favorite part is their music blog titled, Sound Advice. Listening to the same old shit gets boring and that is why TWBE’s playlist approach is plain awesome–a new playlist is released each week by a different compiler (who is usually an artist of some sort).

3. AirPlaneFoodDood – Music blogs are one of the few online niches that don’t revolve entirely around rhetoric–AirPlaneFoodDood is a perfect example of this. While most blog posts are limited (text-wise), and written by authors with names like PantySniffer and SteazyP, the music is there. You’ll find music on APFD that nobody has heard of; then you’ll ask yourself, “Why hasn’t anybody heard of this?”

4. The Inspiration: Music While The Inspiration doesn’t post enough music to warrant the illustrious ‘music blog’ title, when they do post…it is awesome.

5. Soundcloud.com Just kidding

6. The Kollection Dear major music blogs, watch out! The Kollection may not be a household name yet, but we expect this blog to take off. The Kollection is the web’s next big music blog because of its branding, music taste and overall clean look at music.

7. Cinesthetics - Not all music blogs need a boatload of words and free downloads. Cinesthetics uses the visual. Often working with popular music blog ThisSongIsSick.com, Cinesthetics produces some very fine visuals. For example:

8. Live For The Funk Okay maybe we lied about the HypeM part, but this blog warrants our appreciation. Life For The Funk is beautiful (design-wise) and is one of the most eclectic music blogs out there. From hip hop to jazz, Live For The Funk has it all and then some.

9. Camelback Music Bros need music too, bro. This blog, written primarily by Cam Mullen, features an array of frat-tastic music, interviews and a good selection of college tunes for the everyday college student. We highly suggest giving Camelback a go.

10. Boulder Beats
– You may remember Boulder Beats from last year’s list, ’10 of the Best Places to Find College Music in Colorado’, but they’re on here for a different reason this time around. While their blog primarily focuses on events they are throwing, Boulder Beats is a great place to find constant giveaway postings and downloads from Boulder–a mecca for electronica.

11. What’s For Dinna Not a hipster? Neither are What’s For Dinna. WFD is a music blog out of Montreal, Canada that features alternative and future club music…and they have cool clothes. Check them out if you haven’t already.
